About Soy

Soy wax is made from natural soybeans grown right here in the U.S.A. Purchasing soy candles is an excellent way to support American farmers.  It is a natural non-toxic, biodegradable wax; therefore, it is an excellent choice for those wishing to burn natural candles in their home or workplace. Once fragrance oil added to the candles they cannot be defined as completely natural but most allergy suffers that cannot burn candles in their homes will find that soy does not trigger allergies like paraffin candles do.  Not to mention it clean up easily with hot soapy water, even when spilled on carpet or furniture.

Soy wax burns cooler and slower than paraffin, therefore increasing your burn time, and since soy has a lower melt point the risk of burns from hot wax is significantly reduced.  In fact, you can use the melted wax to rub on your hands to make them softer.  Remember to keep your candles out of the sun and bright light as this may cause your candle to sweat or discolor.

Soy wax candles produce very little, if any soot and smoke. To keep smoke at a minimum, burn your candles properly. Each time your candle is lit, trim the wick down to 1/4" and do not allow wick trimmings to fall into your wax melt pool.  Burn candles in an areas that is draft free. You can burn a candle too long. The maximum recommended burn time is 4 hours per burn. Burning your candle longer may result in an unstable wick that could fall over into the wax melt pool. Once this happens, it is almost impossible to burn your candle again. Burning longer than the recommended time is also dangerous, especially when combined with improper wick trimming. Although we use tempered glass, it may not have the ability to withstand the high temperature of an excessively deep melt pool and high flame!

Soy wax candles have a few unique characteristics that in no way affect the wonderful way they burn. As well as containing an all natural wick, your candle will have a creamy, off-white color to it. In keeping with our desire to create as natural a candle as possible, we have chosen not to add artificial color to our wax. There are a few fragrance oils that are a bit darker and will add a pale yellow tint to that particular wax. Your soy wax candle may have a "crusty" appearance on the top of the candle which creates a rustic look.  It is completely normal and again is one of the natural characteristics of soy wax that make it so unique. You may notice some wet looking spots on your candle where the wax has adhered to the surface of the glass. They are caused by temperature variations and are simply due to the expansion and contraction of the wax. You will notice that they change as the candle is burned or when the room conditions change.  Soy wax is very sensitive to temperature and light so be aware of the location when placing or storing your soy candle. Place your candle away from sunlight, fluorescent lighting and sources of heat. We know that once you see how wonderful soy candles are you'll never want to go back to paraffin again. Enjoy your soy!
